The customs officers' path
Enjoy an unbeatable view of the ocean as you stroll along the coast. The 14km path stretches along both sides of the fishing port of Pornic. There are two paths to choose from.
The Sainte Marie circuit to the north of Pornic, which will take you to Préfailles and its Saint-Gildas point. You will start by walking along the lively quays of the old port where you can taste the famous ice creams of La Fraiseraie, then you will go up through the small quiet streets of old Pornic. The path then offers you an unobstructed view of the ocean and its many creeks where you can enjoy a well-deserved swim. The Circuit des Pêcheries to the south of Pornic, which will take you to La Bernerie and Les Moutiers-en-Retz. From the port of Pornic, you will discover the fisheries that trap bass, sole and other fish in their plaice. Stop for lunch at the Auberge de la Fontaine aux Bretons, an old farmhouse a stone's throw from the ocean. Here you will discover the farm animals, of local breeds. The part of the trail on the Côte de Jade is an extension of the Breton "Sentier des douaniers" which runs along the Breton coast for over 1000 kilometres. Brittany has been an important source of smuggling. In 1791, the state decided to have customs officers monitor maritime activity from this path, hence the name "Sentier des Douaniers".

Thanks to the various oyster farms in Moutiers-en-Retz, you can discover the evolution and history of the oyster from its birth to your plate. To prolong this convivial moment, you can taste the regional products during your visit. Some farms also offer direct sales: oysters, mussels, clams, periwinkles, crabs, salt from the Salines de Millac, fish soup, artisanal rillettes, wines from the Domaine du Sillon Côtier... In the company of a guide, you will attend the presentation of a fresco representing the history of salt furnaces. This is based on a painting lent by the Dobrée Museum in Nantes. You will have the opportunity to discover the secrets of the white gold country.
